This shield features beautifully detailed Urnes-style Norse drake ornamental patterns carved into the plywood. It can be used as a decorative wall hanger or as a functional piece for medieval reenactment or LARP
We like to think of the symbols upon this shield as symbolizing Jormungandr, the mythic Serpent that encircles the realm of Midgard in Norse mythology. It is viewed as the ultimate symbol of fate's inevitability. Viking warriors would demonstrate with this icon their will to go to battle and accept whatever fate the gods had in store for them.
The shield is made out of 15mm thick birch plywood, painted, and varnished by hand. It is consolidated by steel bolts and a hand-hammered umbo. It comes with a wood handlebar installed on the back.
